Description | This commemorative headboard was attached to the first train that ran on the opening of the Heathrow extension of the Piccadilly line on 16 December 1977. It features the combined symbol of the aeroplane and the roundel. Produced as publicity for the link, it was used only for the ceremonial opening attended by the Queen. The three-and-a-half-mile extension runs from Hounslow West to Heathrow Airport, and took over six years to build. |
