Booking a visit

Please use the form below to request a visit to the London Transport Museum Library

If you have any questions or would like to discuss your research with us before requesting a visit, please contact us.

Our Library visiting days are Wednesday and Friday. You can request a morning (10:00-13:00), afternoon (14:00-17:00), or both sessions to stay all day. 

If you are unable to visit on a Wednesday or Friday we may be able to accommodate you on another weekday if given sufficient notice. Please note the Library is closed at weekends.

We will check availability and email confirmation of your appointment or suggest alternative dates.

Terms of Use

  • Visiting the library

    • On arrival, visitors must supply photo id and proof of address. Documents such as your driving licence, passport, student ID, bank statement or utility bill are all acceptable. 

    • Coats, bags and laptop cases must be left in the lockers provided. 

    • Mobile phones should be switched off.  

    • Only pencils may be used for taking notes.  

    • Laptops may be used where they do not interfere with other users. Please make sure they are fully charged. Visitors using our power supply do so at their own risk.  

    • Eating and drinking are not permitted in the library, but visitors can drink water in the locker area.  

  • Handling material

    • All material is for reference use only.  

    • Items in our collections are often rare, and in some cases, unique and irreplaceable. Material must be handled with care, using protective equipment where provided.  

    • Use the archival bookmarks provided if you need to mark your place.  

    • Do not lean on material, or place anything on top of material. Staff can provide approved equipment to hold pages open if required. 

    • Any damage to material must be reported immediately.  

  • Copying

    You may use a camera or phone to photograph Library material at the discretion of Library staff and if all the following conditions are met: 

    • Your copying complies with Copyright Regulations and you complete a Copyright Declaration Form. It is your responsibility to check and comply with current copyright law.  

    • You ask permission before taking any photographs. Not all material is suitable for copying. 

    • Your copying is for research or private study, for a non-commercial purpose. We are not licensed for commercial copying of copyright material that we do not own. 

    • You turn off the flash and sound on your camera.  

    • The copies you make are for your reference and you do not reproduce them in any form or pass them to a third party. 

    • If you wish to reproduce the images at any time, it is your responsibility to obtain the necessary permission from copyright owners, including London Transport Museum. 

    • Filming or scanning is not permitted.
