Secrets of Central London walking tour

Discover the secrets of the area around Theatreland, Covent Garden, Kingsway, and the Embankment with one of our expert guides.

This walking tour reveals little known facts about the area that were pulled straight from our archives, including the story of Convent Garden (as it was originally known), and how London’s first professional police force was born. You’ll also find out how well-known streets shaped London’s transport systems, from the construction of the Piccadilly line and Kingsway Tram Tunnel to the building of the Elizabeth line in the 2010s.

Along the way you’ll get glimpses of some iconic Hidden London tour sites, see the oldest shop in the city, hear about the first theatres that opened in the area, and learn about the remarkable feats of engineering that shaped modern transport.

Please note: Children under 9 are not permitted on this tour. 9 to 16-year-olds must be accompanied by an adult.

This walking tour is entirely overground. If you’d like to access disused parts of London’s underground network, you can book onto one of our Hidden London in-person station tours.
