Description | This poster was commissioned by the Underground Electric Railway Company in 1935. It advertises London Zoo and provides one of the earliest references to its late openings on summer evenings. The new opening hours were introduced by popular demand and continued for a number of years. Tom Eckersley and Eric Lombers studied together at the Salford School of Art before moving to London in 1935. Their former tutor recommended them to Frank Pick, who commissioned this poster that year. The Zoo by Floodlight was the first of many collaborative posters Eckersley and Lombers designed for London Transport. |
