On Friday 9 September at 18:45 London Transport Museum is hosting a ‘street party’ style Late to celebrate the opening of the Capital’s new high-speed railway, the Elizabeth line. Guests can take a seat around a giant street party table and indulge their nostalgia with games and creative activities each inspired by a different decade of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, the line’s royal namesake. Think hopscotch, snakes and ladders and wristband making, all led by quirky costumed historical characters from whichever decade you find yourself.

Deliciously purple Elizabeth line-inspired cocktails will be on offer at the bar and guests can also explore the Museum’s galleries and exhibitions after dark. In the Future Engineers gallery visitors can ‘drive’ an Elizabeth line train while a series of lively short talks will reveal more about the building of the railway. In her talk, documentary curator Rosamund Lily West will share how the museum decides what contemporary objects to collect and what artefacts and artworks people in the future will see when they come to learn about the opening of the Elizabeth line.

Visitors can also climb aboard historic buses, Tube trains and trams from days gone by and discover the secrets of the London’s disused Underground stations in the award-winning Hidden London exhibition in the Global Gallery.

The Elizabeth line Late is for over 18s and starts at 18:45. Adult tickets cost £15 and £12 for concessions and must be booked in advance
