Description | This battery locomotive, L35, was built in 1938. It was used for hauling the engineering trains that repaired track on the tube lines. It could run off a line's electricity, but the independent battery power allowed it to work at night, when the current was off. Originally in traditional maroon livery, it was repainted yellow so that it could be seen more clearly at night. The locomotive weighs 53.8 tonnes. |
