Description
The red Routemaster is a design icon and internationally recognised as a symbol of London. Its revolutionary design combined function and elegance. Instead of a chassis, it had interchangeable aluminium body parts, which made it lightweight and easy to repair. The warm- air heating and improved suspension aimed to provide similar comforts to a private car. This bus, RM1737, is painted in traditional red. However, in 1969 it briefly took to the streets in multi-coloured livery, as part of an advertising campaign.
