Description | This ballast wagon was one of 100 ordered by the Metropolitan Railway from Ashbury Carriage & Iron Company in 1897. It is called a '10 ton, 3-plank' wagon as it is able to carry up to 10 tons and because each side is formed of three planks. This wagon was originally numbered 306 and was one of a handful transferred to the London Passenger Transport Board in 1933 where it was reclassified as BW214. It was the last wagon of its type in service when it was withdrawn on 1st May 1970. |
