Description | Thomas Tilling introduced the first petrol-electric bus in London in 1908 and a small batch was produced in 1911. They were produced by Tilling in Peckham with electrical equipment by W. A. Stevens of Maidstone. The buses ran on electric motors powered by a petrol generator. This example is from the second generation of these buses, which were introduced in 1921. The Museum only holds the engine, generator and chassis. The body was lost when the bus was converted into a generator in 1938. |
