Description | Commissioned by the London Passenger Transport Board, this moquette depicts a stylised leaf design in light green and red on a dark green background. It was known as 'Colindale', probably a reference to Colindale Tube station, and was produced in a variety of colours. It was designed by Marion Dorn, one of three artists chosen by London Transport's Publicity Officer Christian Barman to create original designs for its vehicles during the 1930s. The design, which originally had a lighter green background, was first used on the 1938 Tube stock. After the Second World War, it was redrawn and re-coloured in darker colours so that dirt would not show so quickly. |
