Description | By 1908, the London United Tramways had been taken over by the newly formed Underground Electric Railways Company of London, which became known as the Underground Group. This cap badge was issued to Tramways staff as part of their uniform. It features the roundel design in blue enamel with 'Tramways' inscribed on the crossbar. In 1911, the London General Omnibus Company (L.G.O.C.) merged with the Underground Group. Efforts were made to create a shared corporate identity by using the name across the roundel and enlarging the first and last letters. This can be seen in this example of 'Tramways'. The L.G.O.C. was also renamed 'General' but, despite these modifications, both companies were still referred to by their original names. |
