Description | London United Tramways (L.U.T.) was one of the largest tram operators and the first to operate an electric service. This type of L.U.T. cap badge is believed to have been the first given to tram crew. It was issued to inspectors whose job included checking that conductors and drivers were carrying out their duties, and periodically inspecting passenger tickets. The badge depicts the L.U.T. coat of arms: two fire-breathing dragons either side of a shield, which is similar to the City of London coat of arms. |
