Description | In 1940, the Home Guard was set up throughout the UK to carry out war duties at home and help protect civilians from enemy attack. Within London Transport (L.T.), Home Guard units were established to help protect hundreds of targets such as garages, stations, railway lines and power plants. This lapel badge was awarded to Mr J Limming who worked for Central Buses to commemorate his service in the L.T. Home Guard during the Second World War. The badge is in the shape of the Maltese cross, and depicts the London Transport griffin symbol. The inscription includes 'L.T.H.G. 46', which stands for London Transport Home Guard, 46th battalion. The L.T. Home Guard was made up of nearly 30,000 male employees. |
