Description | Dark navy peaked cap with white plastic (PVC) ribbed top with blue piping, plastic mock chin strap, leather inside headband, manufacturer's stamp inside (size 7 1/8, dated 1963). Summer modification, drivers and conductors. PVC topped summer caps were first issued in 1958, and continued in use until the issue of the new 'continental' style caps in 1968. However the new style proved to be unpopular, and peaked caps continued to be worn by some staff. Curators comment, Jon Addison, Curator, 2004. |
