Track [00.45.51]. Jonathan Sothcott (JS) was born just outside of Hull, East Yorkshire on the 1st August1960. His mother was a teacher and did a degree in Textile Design and father was a teacher and did a degree in Cabinet Making. [00:01:14] JS went to school in a village called Willoughby and did a year’s Art Foundation course at Hull College of Art. JS discovered Industrial Design while studying his foundation course. [00:02:50] JS did a degree in Leicester Polytechnic in Industrial Design. [00:04:20] After University JS started at DCA Design Consultancy working for London Underground on designing prototype trains for the Central Line. [00:07:19] JS speaks about DCA Design and what they do. [00:15:05] JS describes the process of designing moquette. [00:16:00] JS explains the prototype trains for the Central Line, including the design for the interior of the vehicles. [00:18:00] JS talks about choosing the colour pallet for the ‘Central Line Check’ moquette and the interior of vehicle. JS goes on to talk about the maintenance of moquette and how this is considered in the design. [00:21:21] JS briefly talks about the ‘Aero’ Design for the Crossrail 341 trains.
