Description | This geographical map is of the Metropolitan Electric Tramways (M.E.T.) system. As well as showing M.E.T.routes, it shows the London County Council Tramways extensions, London United Tramways routes and the Underground railways dating from around 1912. The M.E.T, a privately owned company and part of the Underground Electric Railways Company of London was formed in association with Middlesex County Council in 1901. It operated tram services throughout Middlesex and Hertfordshire from 1904 to 1911. The production of maps in such a permanent material as vitreous enamel reflects the fixed nature of tram systems in comparison to more flexible bus routes. |
