Description | The 'Save Our Buses' (S.O.B.) campaign was launched in 1990 in response to two key bus routes being altered in the Hackney, Leyton and Walthamstow area. As part of the campaign, this badge was issued. The text and illustration are both drawn in a child-like hand. Headed by local residents, the campaign protested about the shortening of bus routes 38 and 55, which link Leyton and Walthamstow to the West End. The campaign was helped by the introduction of bus lanes along part of the route affected, the Lea Bridge Road. In 1997, route 55 was fully reinstated seven years after its reduction. |
