Description
From the late 1940s, most food provided for London Transport (L.T.) staff was produced by its own catering department. This paper wrapper is from a bar of Griffin Milk Chocolate sold to staff by London Transport Catering. It depicts the griffin symbol, which was one of the L.T. company trademarks. L.T. food production and catering was based at Baker Street Canteen and Training Centre, and later at the Food Production Centre at Croydon. In 1983, following a shift in catering requirements, the Croydon centre was closed and the catering privatised to make it more cost-effective. Two years later a new Catering Department was opened at 55 Broadway, L.T's headquarters.
