Description | The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (R.M.T.) is one of several unions that represent workers at London Transport. The union produced this lapel badge in support of its Save Our Tubes campaign. The campaign was launched in response to the government's proposal to make the operation of London Underground Limited follow the Public Private Partnership format. This would mean using private sector investment to improve the infrastructure of the network whilst leaving the system's operation to the public sector. The R.M.T. strongly objected to the proposals, fearing that they would affect conditions of service and jobs. The union called a series of 48-hour strikes that affected services on all London Underground lines. |
