London's Transport No.3, to the outskirts by electric train
    Text
Buses and Underground railways feed the main-line stations from which suburban services / operate. These rapid and reliable transport services between central London and the / outlying districts make it possible for people who work in London to live in the semi-country / 15 or 20 miles away. Often, Underground Railway trains and electrified main-line trains / operate over the same lines, sharing stations and station personnel - co-operation is / complete. The big picture above shows passengers boarding a Southern Railway train for / London. Regular travellers can buy season tickets at special, cheaper rates, and are thus / able to travel quickly and cheaply between home and office. Total war put practically / everyone in the country to work, heavy bombing persuaded many to move out to the / suburbs, but sound planning, whole-hearted co-operation and enthusiasm for the job / enabled the London Passenger Transport Board and the railways to meet the demand.
