Item content Attribute Value Object title London's Transport No.2, thirty-five thousand passengers in fifteen minutesText So great is the concentration of business and light industry in inner London / that during the peak 15 minutes in the evenings some 35,000 passengers / bound for home board the Underground trains at stations in the central area. / The same sort of thing happens in the mornings, when about 26,000 / workers arrive by Underground in one 15-minute period. Before the war, / within a radius of 25 miles of Charing Cross, London Transport operated / 3,200 railway cars, 2,600 trams, 6,000 buses and coaches. All told these / vehicles ran 537,000,000 miles a year and carried more than three and a / half thousand million passengers. Through all the dangers and difficulties / of war, London Transport has maintained an adequate and efficient service. -
