Description
This poster was commissioned by London Transport in 1996. The design comprises nine intricate multiblock colour wood engravings by the prolific Australian-born artist Edwina Ellis. The aim of the poster was to celebrate the diversity of modern architecture in London and encourage both Londoners and tourists to visit the sites by bus and Underground. Each architectural detail is labelled with the building, architect and nearest Underground station. From the top, left to right, the buildings are as follows: The Sainsbury Wing of the National Gallery, Mound Stand at Lords, Embankment Place, Waterloo International station, The Clore Gallery at the Tate, No 1 Finsbury Park Avenue, Sterling Hilton Hotel, the Sackler Gallery at the Royal Academy, and Lloyds of London.
