Bring Back the Red!. Increased services mean new trains and polishing up the veterans. The Tube has never been more popular, with 762 million passengers last year. We have improved services on the District and Piccadilly lines, and now we are putting more trains on the Central, Jubilee, Victoria and Northern Lines, particularly at peak times. We've ordered 16 new trains to boost services and coaxed four 1938 scarlet trains from retirement to help out on the Northern Line. Repainted and refurbished they are a splendid nostalgic sight.

Brunel Lives at Paddington. New tiling at the Bakerloo Line Station at Paddington picks up the engineering drawings of Brunel, creator of the Great Western Railway. The newly-cleaned District platforms now look as good as they did on opening day in 1868.

New lifts for the Elephant. The first two new lifts in the #2.7m renewal scheme at Elephant and Castle will be completed in about 18 months. The other pair of old lifts will be kept in service during this period.

The big frieze at South Ken. Zoologists will be greeted by fish and mammals on the platforms at South Kensington, Piccadilly Line. The renewal scheme starts in the Spring, and will include re-shaping the ticket hall in readiness for the new computerized ticket system.
