Description | In this picture, taken on 11 May 1926, volunteers are making their beds using army blankets and pillows during the General Strike. Hundreds of volunteers were housed and fed at Earl's Court in the Empress and Queens Hall by the Underground and London General Bus Company. These people are helping to keep London running during the strike by driving buses and Underground trains while the regular drivers were on strike. |
