Description | Notting Hill Carnival was first held in 1959 in the wake of the Notting Hill race riots. It was intended to unite Londoners of all races in celebrations based on the traditional West Indian carnivals. In this picture, a woman wears an elaborate costume with blue, silver and yellow plumes. There are two tiger head designs on the wings of the costume, and a tiger head mask above her head. |
