Description | The South African president, P W Botha, visited London in 1984. He met the then Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. The meeting was unpopular with the British public. It seemed to condone South Africa's policy of racial apartheid. There were a number of protests in London against the visit. This photo shows part of a march to Trafalgar Square in June 1984. Protestors are carrying banners with slogans against Botha and Thatcher. |
