Description | Photograph showing the Ferris wheel at the Earls Court Exhibition Ground, in December 1906, with Barons Court sidings on the Great Northern and Piccadilly Tube Railway in the foreground. The Earl's Court Ferris wheel was built in 1895. It was 300 feet (91 metres) in diameter and had both first- and second-class cars. The wheel also had smoking and non-smoking accommodations. On one occasion in 1896, the wheel became stuck, and passengers were stranded for four and a half hours rather than having the 20-minute ride they were expecting. The wheel closed in 1906. |
