Description | This platform tile motif at Stockwell Underground station on the Victoria line was designed by Abram Games. These tiles form an image of a swan, a theme taken from the nearby live music pub of the same name. The motifs created at each of the stations on the line were unique. The Victoria line was opened in three stages from 1968 onwards. Pimlico, the final station, was completed in 1972. It was the first Underground line to cross London since 1907. When it opened, it was also the most highly automated passenger railway system in the world: ticket issuing and checking as well as train routing from a central control room were all automatic. |
