Description | This photograph shows car 100, a tram that ran out to Eltham. This tram car had been in service since 1928. By the 1950s, trams were being replaced by diesel buses, and the last cars were withdrawn in July 1952. Most of those last trams carried Last Tram Week posters on the outside. The poster can just be seen on the right in this shot. The advertising campaign encouraged thousands of Londoners to catch a ride on a tram for the last time. |
