Description | Before going into service, all buses undergo extensive safety tests. One of these is the tilt test, which tests the stability of the bus in poor conditions. This photo from 1978 shows an RM-type being tested. The top deck of the bus is loaded with sandbags to represent the weight of the passengers. The vehicle is then gradually tilted to an angle of 28 degrees. All the wheels of the bus must stay in contact with the road. |
