Description
Wood Lane station was opened by the Central London Railway in 1908 to take people to the Franco-British Exhibition at White City Stadium. In the early years of the century, such exhibitions were very popular. The White City site was also used for the Olympic Games in 1908 and the Japanese-British exhibition in 1910. The station was designed by Harry W Ford in 1913. It has the roundels above the entrances, one of their first uses in station architecture. They were made of small mosaic tiles known as tesserae. The photo was taken in 1927, the year the station was remodelled to handle increased demand due to the introduction of greyhound racing at the White City Stadium.
