Description
Three-quarter side view of District Railway steam locomotive no 42, standing at Mill Hill Park (now Acton Town) in 1884. The engine was built in 1883, and the photograph shows the first "improved" pattern of front and rear weatherboards to the footplate. Note the "Windsor" board over the buffer beam of the engine. District services to Windsor (GWR) from Ealing Broadway ran from 1 March 1883 to 30 September 1885. Through trains ran from Mansion House to Windsor. Figures are, left to right, Inspector Mitchell, Driver Nutt, Fireman Albury and Shed Foreman Gillingham.
