Description | The Mayor of Kingston, Alderman Henry Charles Minnitt, is positioned to drive the first tram across Kingston Bridge. Sir James Clifton Robinson, the London United Tramways Managing Director, stands in front of the tram on the right; his son has one foot on the step. The driver on the platform is Louis Bruce, thought to be London's first Black tram driver, as well as Britain's first Black Olympic athlete. Bruce drove Robinson's personal tram, No. 320, which is bedecked with flags and bunting and there is a similar tram at the rear. A policeman in cape stands in right foreground and a man in bowler hat looks at camera on right. |
