Description | Construction of the Central London Railway (now Central line). Oxford Circus Station. View down platform tunnel, cast-iron tunnel rings line the walls. A wooden scaffolding platform stands floor to ceiling, mid/ground centre. Two workmen stand beneath it. Building debris covers floor in foreground. Under exposed shot, very little detail discernible. The main contractor, The Electric Traction Company, subcontracted the construction work to Walter Scott & Co. Photo taken by Edmund Percy Rowden, a Civil Engineer working on the project. |
