Description | British Museum Underground station, Central line. Exterior view of the surface building designed by architect Harry Bell Measures for the Central London Railway. A five storey office block has been built above the station (not occupied at this time). Between the station's openings is a tobacconists and an antique shop. The UndergrounD sign and the station name are displayed on the glazed entrance canopy. Bronze, swan neck poster frames (one displaying an Underground map) flank the entrance/exit ways. A raised arrow above the entrance points the way to the Piccadilly line, Holborn station. The station was closed in Septembr 1933 when the new Holborn Underground station opened. British Museum station was demolished in 1989. |
