Description | Earl's Court Underground station, District and Piccadilly lines. Interior platform view during District line operation in 1896. The view shows passengers waiting on the westbound side of the island platform as a steam train, running 'bunker first' approaches; note the man, midground right, holding a young child on his shoulder so he/she can get a better look at the train. Above them is the glass roof which completely covers the platforms. Note the density of advertising then permitted on stations. Early train describer boards can be seen on the island platform, and a glazed waiting shelter on the side platform on the left. |
