Description | Interior of a Q35-stock District line car featuring seating upholstered in the moquette pattern produced by Holdsworth & Co for the Hammersmith & City line. This car, No 8784, was provided as an experiment with 'daylight' fluorescent electric lighting which was new at the time. Twelve 2ft long tubes were fitted to each side of the car. The seating was also reupholstered using the 1935 style moquette. The windows are fitted with wartime anti-blast netting. A recruiting poster for station staff is pasted to the draught screen, foreground right. Several 'passengers' can be seen, but this is almost certainly a posed shot. |
