Description
The BBC dominated radio broadcasting in the first half of the 20th century. In the 1960s, 'pirate' radio stations helped to break the monopoly. However it was not until 1973 that London's first independent radio station was launched. Capital Radio was the first London-wide independent station. This converted RT-type bus, with its rear half of top deck cut away, has been repainted to advertise a Capital Radio road-show. It is seen at Barking on the last day of operation of RT-type buses, on 7 April 1979.
