Description | Built in 1911 to replace a much simpler station halt, Northfields & Little Ealing station was designed by Harry Ford. This interior shot shows the beautiful tiling and oak panelling in the booking hall. The lattice gates in the background are known as Bostwick gates. They were typically used at station or lift entrances. In the late 1920s, this station was affected by the redevelopment of the Piccadilly line. This was influenced by plans to create a cohesive corporate identity for London's Underground. The building was demolished in 1930 and replaced by a new station in 1932. This photo from 1927 seems to be part of the inventory of station properties taken in advance of redevelopment. |
