Description | Metropolitan line station gardens competition 1936. Two of the judges, Sir Edward Holland and Mr John Cliff, stand beside a trackside garden at Hammersmith Underground station (now Hammersmith & City line); cultivated by Station Inspector F G Phillips and Shunter A Morgan, it was awarded a first prize of £5. Other members of the party stand on, and by the side of, the track leading to Hammersmith depot, which is located background right; a number of trains can be seen in the depot. The station platforms are visible on the left; note GWR station nameboard and weighing machine. |
