Description | This is the newly reconstructed Acton Town station on the District line in 1916. Its name had changed from Mill Hill Park to Acton, after the nearby town. The station, built in 1910, is dominated by the arched central entrance. Bronze-framed poster panels with decorative overhead iron fittings and hexagonal Underground shades are displayed on either side. The shops that were built into the station building boosted the station's income: cigarettes and confectionary were popular travellers' fare. The building was demolished when Charles Holden designed the present station in 1932. |
