Description | The air shaft chamber at Notting Hill Gate Underground station. A disused spiral-staircase shaft and lift shaft were utilised to pump cool air into the deep level station platforms. Here, LT Technical Assistant Bryan Innes opens the 'damper' which connects the fan equipment (pumping cold air from the surface) to the vast chamber at the foot of the old lift shaft. The opening on the left is the airway leading to the Eastbound running tunnel and westbound platform. |
