Description | Rear view of stairwell entrance to Chancery Lane station (Holborn, south side). A man and woman are studying a 1933 version of Harry Beck's Underground map, which has been overprinted with a circle indicating 'This Station'. The stairwell itself is enclosed by bronze railings; the station name is fixed below the top of the balustrade, facing the camera. Apart from a group of people in the right background, both the pavements and the road are comparatively deserted. The cable drum in the left foreground is marked 'Post Office Telephones'. |
