Description | This shot is one of series U3425-U3428 showing the fitting of chairs to sleepers, taken during the time of Morden extension of the Northern line. An assembly line of men and machinery has been set up in an open field area, behind which can be seen stacked rows of wooden sleepers, the metal chairs which are brackets that actually hold the track, and the sections that are sandwiched in between the chair and sleeper when they are bolted together. |
