    Compton Bennett began his career as a bandleader and commercial artist. He then made amateur films, which landed him a job with Alexander Korda's London Films in 1932 where he became a film editor. During World War 2 he made instructional and propaganda films for the British armed forces.

    Bennett went on to work as a film director in London and Hollywood. He directed the films The Seventh Veil (1946) and The Gift Horse (1952). He is perhaps most famous for King Solomon's Mines which he co-directed with Andrew Marton during his time in Hollywood (1950).
