    Born in 1873, Louis Whirter, his orignal name was Weierter but he changed his name on two occasions. He was a painter and etcher. He is perhaps best know for his pictures of World War One. He studied art in Scotland and Paris. He was a member of the Scottish Society of Artsists and the Royal Society of British Artists from 1904 to 1914. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Paris Slaon and elsewhere. His work is in the collection of the Imperial War Museum and the national collection at Ottawa. He illustrated several travel books.

    He died in London in 1932.
