    Hal Missingham was an Australian artist who studied in Perth (1922-1926), Paris (1926) and London (1926-1932).He worked in a variety of media, and in 1933 became interested in photography. From 1927-1928 Missingham worked as a teacher and freelance artist in Canda. In 1941 he returned to Australia and in 1945 he was appointed Director of the Australian Gallery of New South Wales, where he introduced enlightened policies of Australian art collecting, and the international exhibitions organised by him represented outstanding contributions to contemporary Australian art development. He worked there until 1971.
