    Biography
Norman Wilkinson was born in Cambridge. He studied first at Portsmouth and Southsea School of Art, (where he also taught) and later with Louis Grier at St Ives and in Paris.

From 1898 to 1915 he worked on the Illustrated London News with Russell Flint. During World War One he developed dazzle camoflage for ships and during World War Two he worked on camouflage of buildings viewed from the air.

He excelled as a marine painter and developed a popular reputation when his work was used for posters used to advertise main line railway travel between the wars. His book A Brush with Life was published in 1969. He exhibited widely and his work is in many public collections in Britain and abroad.
