    Gladys Mary Rees was an illustrator, watercolour and oil painter. She was educated at Chelsea School of Art where she also later taught. Prior to the late 1960s she combined painting with illustrative work then became a full-time landscape watercolour painter. Rees designed posters for London Underground and illustrated a number of books, some of which she wrote herself. She signed her works Gladys Rees sometimes, which was her maiden name. Rees exhibited widely in Britain, including the Royal Academy of Art, the New English Art Club, the United Society of Artists, and had solo shows in Lincolnshire. A dissertation has been written on her by her granddaughter.
