    Noted as a draughtsman and painter in oils, Feliks Topolski was born in Warsaw, Poland and studied at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Art. He studied in Paris and Italy before settling in London in 1935, gaining British citizenship in 1947.

    During World War Two he was official war artist to the Polish Forces and published three books of his wartime drawings, Britain in Peace and War (1941), Russia in War (1942), and Three Continents (1946). He has designed many murals and large easel paintings and painted the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth in 1953. Between 1975 and his death in 1989, he worked on a 600ft mural in railway arches on London's South Bank, depicting events and people of the 20th century.

    In addition to his other work he has contributed to television and stage set and costume designs. He has also illustrated many books some of which he has written himself.
